HOUSING INITIATIVES
Neighborhood Homes (pdf file) -- A sketch of the six neighborhood homes that we will start renovating this year. These homes had fallen into disrepair. Once the renovations are completed, buyers will be able to move in to their new homes. Two homes continue to be marketed. this year with the help of the NYC Housing Preservation & Development and the Enterprise Foundation.
Jacob’s Place
The Housing Corporation is pleased to announce the start of construction for Jacob’s Place, an 8-story 63-unit apartment building that will include 6 classrooms for an early childhood education center. Additional indoor space will serve as a motor skills and community room. Jacob’s Place also includes a backyard recreation area for both the center and tenants. Jacob's Place is named in honor of the late Astin Jacobo—a longtime neighborhood leader from the Crotona section of the Bronx. Known in the community as Jacob, Mr. Jacobo was instrumental in the founding of the Crotona Community Coalition and led the grassroots campaign to revitalize his community. A native of the Dominican Republic, Jacob got involved in the community shortly after arriving in Crotona in 1970. A parishioner and employee of St. Martin of Tours Church, he worked tirelessly on behalf of the neighborhood’s young people and is most famous for his efforts to create the Mapes Avenue Ball field. He was also instrumental in the development of the Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center. He was involved in many efforts to preserve and create new housing in his once blighted community.

2241 Webster Avenue
This 9-unit development was the last vacant city-owned apartment building
in the Northwest Bronx, where there were once hundreds of dangerous
eyesores abandoned during the 1970s and 1980s. We have included a
number of green construction elements in the rehab scope, including bamboo
flooring, low e windows, Energy Star dishwashers and a green roof.
