Poe Park

Poe Park is a historic park site that contains Poe Cottage, the last home of the 19th-century American writer Edgar Allan Poe.  The cottage is managed by the Bronx County Historical Society.  The park is located north of Fordham Road, bordered by East Kingsbridge Road, East 192nd Street, and the Grand Concourse.

FBHC has obtained funding for renovating and landscaping the park.  In addition, we were able to secure $2.3 million for the development of a visitor center and museum. This state-of-the-art facility, designed by Toshiko Mori Architect, will house an information desk and an exhibition space, as well as assembly areas and restrooms for park visitors.  Construction is scheduled to be completed by January 2010.

For over a decade, Fordham Bedford Housing Corporation has provided both technical and staff support to The Ravens, Friends of Poe Park, a community-based volunteer group. The mission of this group is to maintain a safe, drug-free haven in the park for the entire community.

Throughout the years, the Ravens and FBHC have held a variety of events and concerts in the park in collaboration with Partnerships for Parks of the NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation.  These include the city-wide “It’s My Park Day,” an Easter egg hunt, the annual Christmas tree lighting, and other events during the summer, depending on funding capacity.
